At this point, everyone in the world knows that the Neo-cons won this election on values, which is a code word for a laundry list of things that aren't actually values. I firmly believe that democrats need to start pounding the Republicans instead of just running damage control on every hateful word they vomit into the political arena, and this election may have given us a fantastic opportunity. If they want to win on values and values alone, I say fantastic. We spend the next 2 years painting republicans as dimwitted fag-haters that don't care about anything else.
We could hammer every senate and house member who ever mentioned gays. Imagine ads that feature montages of every time a conservative candidate cried "gay". The public has already accepted that this is how the Republicans won, so it should be easy to show people that this is all they can talk about. We can have taglines like:
Why is he so obsessed with gays? What's he hiding from?
While freedom was under assault, he said that gay marriage was our greatest threat. Gay people never attacked the World Trade Center.
There's more to governing than hating gay people.
The economy is dead, crime and drug use are on the rise for the first time in 20 years (I'm vamping here), and all Senator XXXXX cares about is gay people. Isn't that strange?
Now, some mouth breathers may actually appreciate these ads, but I think it's a shot to try and reach the rational Right. And sure it's dirty, but that's what it's going to take. Does anyone have any suggestions for other ways to redefine the Republicans? If we are lucky, 2004 may have given us enough rope to hang 'em in 2006.
