Please join us on Saturday, Dec. 4, in a series of small gatherings (nationwide) to discuss what needs to be done in the coming weeks, months, and years. The aim is to galvanize progressives in ALL communities and ALL political parties, by simply spreading the word and keeping people energized, involved, and informed. More immediately, the aim is to call attention--urgently--to the GOP's anti-democratic and un-constitutional activities.
This will take place in cities around the country. So far it has been arranged by word of mouth; but let's tap into this online community to spread the word. Participation is simple. Host an evening gathering (either a pot-luck dinner or post-dinner conversation) for 10-15 concerned friends and acquaintances. If the numbers get too large, split it up between two houses (and so on).
At our gatherings, the agenda will be framed around two general topics. First, what do progressives (from any party) need to do to stimulate political interest and engagement in their communities, towns, and regions? Which issues deserve the most attention? What kind of public discussions and mobilizations will help us galvanize support? How do we best call attention to the damage that the Bush administration is doing to our nation's democratic institutions and traditions? How do we create a coherent political message around which we can organize in future elections?
Second, how can we mobilize locally--and immediately--to demand that current Democratic officials and leadership take a stand against the Bush agenda? The Democrats must demand accountability from this administration, and they must defend the interests and preferences of the OTHER ½ of the voting public (not to mention those whose votes might not have been counted, and the countless citizens who couldn't wait in line for 3 hours). We all need to pressure the Democratic Party to keep the heat on the GOP.
Please let me know if you are interested, and if you plan to host a gathering. I can update everyone on the numbers and locations. Finally, thanks to dKos and all of you who are doing so much critical work, work that needs to be continued.
