This page seems to be completely made up of letters that I've written to the editors of major newspapers. Oh well. Here's the latest:
Johns Hopkins University recently released the results of a study into the civilian death toll in Iraq, putting the number of civilians dead, mostly women and children, in the neighborhood of 100,00. If this study is correct, 100,000 innocent people in Iraq dead by our hand. That's twice as many people as the US lost in the Vietnam War, and more than 30 times as many people as were killed on 9/11 in the World Trade Center. Yet what is the religious right's main concern this week? The fact that there was a suggestive lead-in to Monday Night Football, which included a supposedly naked Nicolette Sheridan jumping into the arms of Terrell Owens.
Have we completely lost all sense of priority in this country? Unlike our President, I don't claim to have inside knowledge of what Jesus would do, but I doubt that a Monday Night Football promo would concern him more than the deaths of 100,000 of his children. I recall the Commandment "Thou shalt not kill," but I don't remember anything about "Thou shalt not make racy commercials." Shame on the religious right for crying foul over something so minor, when this country has made such a mess out of Iraq. Are the deaths of innocent people only worth our notice when they are American? This country needs to take a long, hard look at itself and its priorities.
Am I the only person out there who is beginning to consider some type of therapy to get over this election? Can't get past it, can't seem to move on. Every time I open the paper or turn on the news, I get so full of rage that it feels like every nerve in my body is standing on end. Is it just me?
