Reagan had been, well .. more political. She remembered when the Iraq colonial government had announced it was going to hold elections after all. Most Americans believed these elections would be a fraud but Reagan believed in George Bush's vision.
"Carol, these Democrats are full of shit. The PEOPLE will choose. They have been waiting for this chance since we liberated Iraq."
Reagan even had a portrait of his namesake on the wall ... next to the pictures of Jesus and Dr. King. Our home was .. well a honeymoon nest of patriotism.
When the election was held, however, Reagan was devastated.

Reagan was so mad at the Iraqis, after all we had done for them. That was he told Carol about signing up for the Marines. He did too. Signed up, was trained, went over, and came back six months later in body bag.
Poor Reagan could never have imagined that the Iranians would fight so hard to protect their neighbors. Tactical nuclear bombs too! Even President Bush was surprised when the Security Council affirmed Iran's right to first use in self defense.
