I know how controversial McGreevey was, and I'm glad he resigned, but somebody has done up a little
petition for him. His announcement was certainly a milestone moment for gay politicians. I just hope someday we have a high-ranking gay elected official who can be out and proud.
I wanted to pass it along in case you wanted to sign.
Here goes.
To: James McGreevey, Governor of the State of New Jersey
To the outgoing Governor of the State of New Jersey, James McGreevey:
On Thursday, August 12th, 2004, you did a memorable act by announcing that you were a gay man. Despite whatever reasons you had for doing so, we, the families, friends and members of the gay community, feel that such an act should be recognized in the hopes that other gay persons, especially those in positions of power come out and give a face and voice to gays everywhere. We would also hope that you use your stature to further the causes of the gay community. Once again, you have taken a bold step and hopefully it will enable you to further your own personal and professional life as well as being as asset to gays everywhere.
