I posted a comment earlier today about how the administration is selling its lies about social security now the same well they peddled their canards on Iraq in 2002.
It occurs to me that we should push this analogy alongside the "Social Security Ain't Broke" frame. This framing of the social security debate as a repeat of the one on Iraq would serve two purposes:
- It will underscore how dishonest the administration's "case" for social security reform is. For example, one response to my earlier post called the supposedly impending bankrupcy of social security the new "mushroom cloud."
- It will tie the "promise" of the administration's social security "reforms" to the administration's promises of success in Iraq ("Mission Accomplished" anyone?), making Bush's claims seem all the more dubious, especially as the situation in Iraq continues to spin out of our control.
So how about it? Please offer suggestions for the best way to word the new frame (the above comparison of Bush's current claims to those about Saddam's "nukular" program might be a good place to start).
