Ever wonder why a lot of your professors seem to be liberal? Do you ever curse the day God decided to send you to university, because the lack of academic diversity gets you down? Are you a big fan of Orwellian language? Well, then Campus Republicans might be for you!
I was walking around my apartment yesterday when I saw this article laying on my brother's bed. The title of the article caught my attention: "For liberals, diversity's the thing--except in thought". And I thought to myself, what the hell is this doing in my brother's possesion? Turns out one of his more liberal professors decided to hand this out to his entire class, perhaps to make it seem like he is without bias (and therefore make himself less susceptible to the lynchings that are coming against liberal professors these days, at least in boulder) or perhaps he passed it out because he genuinely wants his students to see both sides of this issue.
And the best part is the article.

You gotta love being a liberal in this day and age. For about 20 years now, the word 'liberal' has been the most drastic of insults that a conservative could hurl your way. Our only intellectual sanctuary was the University. In the liberal 'mecca' that is Boulder, calm, laid back, hipppie sanctuary could be found--and your tendency was to be comfortable in your liberal-ness in a place like that.
And then, the College Republicans reared their ugly heads in Boulder again.
Led by Brad Jones, arch-enemy of levelheaded discourse and tricky back-door politican in training, the College Republicans held many controversial events, including an Affirmative Action bake sale (in which Minority students were charged a small fee for baked goods, let's say 10 cents and white students were charged a dollar). This caused quite a stir in the university community, and while it was not the first of its kind, its connection to Brad Smith made me pay attention.
And then they turned their eyes to 'liberal' professors. Thanks to David Horowitz, we almost got an "Academic Bill of Rights" in our state--which is tantamount to legalized witch hunts on liberal professors.
Ever taken an Environmental Studies class? Pretty liberal stuff. Ever taken a macroeconomics course? Not liberal, not even a bit.
Guess what? As long as their are economics courses, there are going to be conservative professors on campus. And as long as there are environmental studies courses, there are going to be liberal professors on campus. You have to buy what you are teaching to be effective.
All I can say is that universities are about the obtainment of true knowledge--a good university anyway. And in general, conservatives don't seem to be too worried about the 'truth' lately--unless it's state-sponsored and sanitized. An abudance of Liberals on campus hasn't been a problem until the last few years. Am I right, or am I losing my mind? Is it worth a poll?
