On Imus this morning Jay Severin, the irresponsible Boston rightwing talk show host, said it pained him to say it, but the numbers didn't look good for Bush. He noted Bush's high current unfavorability ratings. So even Severin feels the need to reestablish his political creds before it's too late.
This is the same guy that a couple of weeks ago was voicing a crackpot theory about how the mass of voters will never pick a Democrat during war time.
Imus seemed persuaded. He said flatly last week that Kerry would lose. But since talking with Severin, Imus all morning has been predicting a Bush loss.
Mary Matalin, later in the morning, was very much on the defensive and in high Kerry-attack mode.
