All this claptrap about Christmas being under attack derives from that very fundamental fundamentalist Weltanschauung. The Christian right believes--always has, always will--that it and its values are constantly under attack. Who knows if its some sort of wacky way of empathizing with Jesus, or merely relating to him. What's obvious, though, is that in spite of their ascendency, they view themselves in the minority. It's part of their biblical prophecy for goodness sakes. They're the few non-heathens around for Apocalypse. Take a quick scan of those Left Behind books, and you'll get what I mean.
How does this relate to anti-semistism? If I had to hazard a guess, one could probably chart a psychological path in these people's minds between the persecution of Jesus and their own perceived position in contemporary America. Otherwise, in more general and perhaps more demonstrable terms, their persecution complex requires a persecutor, and who better than shadowy Jews. It speaks to both a lack of creativity and a learned hatred and fear of Jews.
Whatever, I mean, it's not like the beerhalls of Munich bear any resemblance to the 700 Club...right?
