In an article in the Seattle Times,
here, we learn the Gregoire is not a party to the lawsuit brought by the Dems to force the recount of all ballots -- not just the ones that were counted the first time.
Choice quotes:
"What's important and of interest to the party isn't necessarily, absolutely in sync with me and my interests," Gregoire said.
Sigh. If only there were a way for her to lose without Rossi winning... I'd be rooting for that.
What bothers me here is that Gregoire is not leading the efforts to ensure that all the ballots are counted, and that she appears to be continuously undermining her party in the media.
Attorney General Christine Gregoire said she played no role in the sweeping lawsuit filed by the Democratic Party in the hopes it could help win her the governor's office.
Gregoire, a career attorney and three-term Democratic attorney general, said she didn't see the suit before it was filed and wasn't consulted.
Though she expressed no disagreements with the Democrats' strategy, she has distanced herself from the recount. She did not appear at the Democratic Party announcement of the call for the state's first hand recount of a statewide race.
"This recount is being run by the party, paid for by the party, and the lawsuit is all about that," Gregoire said.
Meanwhile, the Rossi camp continues to push statements of "We need closure so the state can transition to the new administration", and "the Dems are trying to steal the election."
But, is there any reason Gregoire cannot be front and center saying that this election is down to 42 votes out of several million, that we really don't know who won, and that we need to count all the votes by hand to ensure there were no errors?
Meanwhile, the recount is going on, and they have added an extra 39 votes (18 for Gregoire, 21 for Rossi) out of the first 66,253. Only 2.7 Million more votes to go... If this rate holds up, we can expect another 1,590 votes to be found, even not double-checking the votes thrown out the first time.
