I'm sick and tired of the radical right wing fundamentalist Christians of this country co-opting a term that does not represent them. The vast majority of Christians in this country do not want to impose their literal interpretation of the Bible on others, so why should these people be called Christians? I prefer the term Fundamentalist Christians. It puts them in the proper perspective and also identifies them with the other small minority with a megaphone - Fundamentalist Muslims. In my mind they are no different and twice as dangerous - given their power in America.
It's time for the majority of Christians and Muslims worldwide to stand up and say that these minorities do not speak for the majority. I see how these fear tactics work in congress. Moderate republicans are afraid to vote against anything that has the support of the "fundamentalist" right because they don't want to appear "anti-God" to their constituency. If we can make this distinction and show these people for what they are - power hungry hate purveyors, then we can move forward on putting them back where they belong - in the periphery.
