"Polygamy, bestiality - what's next?!"
How many times have we heard that arguement from the other side? It's time we started shooting it down - here's how...
People in support of equal rights for all are simply asking for simply that. Right now one woman has the right to marry one man. One man has the right to marry one woman. We argue for the right of one person to be married to one person.
That is equal protection under the law. Every person is equally restricted to be married to one, and only one, other person.
Marilyn Musgrave was on Larry King the other night asking where the morality slide ends. Polygamy? Bestiality? Necropaly?
Unfortunately, none of the good guys answered effectively. Somebody (Newsome) should have said that there is no morality slide at all - rather we are climbing the morality mountain. Once we've achieved equal protection under the law, we've moved closer to the most pure moral vison.
Musgrave went on to say that, using our logic, we can't restrict polygamy or bestiality.
Nonsense. We have laws restricting thievery, murder, obscenity, drugs, prostitution, etc. Each of those laws - indeed, every single law, ostensibly - is rooted in societal morality. A law against polygamy or bestiality would be no different.
