So I taped Howard Stern this morning, and it is getting bad. The government is trying to shut him down. Basically with all of these gay marriage stuff, and Janet Jackson's titty, a full-blown culture war is going on. And this Jesus movie is whipping all the Christian Supremacist's into a frenzy. Bush's support for the gay marriage amendment constitutes, in my mind, the Pearl Harbor of World War 3 in the culture war.
Stern is saying he might be removed from the air by the end of the month, because the FCC is trying to remove him. He was dropped from 6 stations today, and he's probably going to be subpoenaed to testify before congress.
In all likelihood, this is probably going to get me to vote for Kerry. If Bush is going to declare war on the arts, I pretty much have no choice. I've never seen anything like this in my life.
I am deeply ashamed of Kerry, however, for cowing under to Bush about the gay amendment. I guess he is afraid Bush will yell at him. At this point, I am really regretting that we did not nominate a fighter like Dean.
But we are stuck with Kerry, and if Bush is re-elected, we'll get full-blown government control of the arts. He'll take us into more wars and bring back the draft. The anti-gay amendment is probably just the first move against gays.
I know many of you don't like Stern, but he is honestly one of the greatest social satirests of our times. Granted, he's lost a lot of his game in his old age, but he still has 20 million listeners. Now the FC is even talking about taking moves against shows like "The Shield" and "Six Feet Under" and "The Sopranos," even though they are not broadcast over the airwaves. Basically, it looks like Bush wants to covert the FCC into a Ministry of the Arts. And that fat son of a whore Michael Powell is more than willing to play along.
This move against Stern by the government is a pretty big wake up call for me. You can say goodbye to good films and TV, if they succeed. And if you're gay, I wouldn't be surprised to wake up twenty years from now in a striped suit.
