Today Harry Sampson received the endorsement of the Easton Star Democrat. Here are they're remarks as written in today's paper.
It's Sampson for Congress for Democrats
Of the Democrats running for congress in the first district primary, our choice is Harry E. Sampson.
If anyone is going to go head to head to head with incumbent GOP Congressman Wayne T. Gilchrest (assuming he wins the march 2nd primary) in November, Sampson has the strongest platform and political experience to make it a real race.
Sampson disagrees with many of Gilchrest's decision on issues affecting Marylanders, including edcuation, protecting the environment, womens rights and the economy. He has followed national education policies and wonders why the former history teacher isn't more vocal on that issue and working to bring more dollars to our schools.
Harry Sampson first entered politics in 1998 when he was elected to the Chesapeake City Town Council after serving a year on the Chespeake City Planning and Zoning Commission.
He has been actively campaigning for the Democratic Nomination for over a year and has received endorsements from several Eastern Shore Democrats and Chesapeake City's Republican Mayor, Rob Bernstine. Elkton Mayor Rob Alt, Cecilton Mayor John J. Bunnell, Ocean City Councilwoman Nancy L. Howard, Bel Air Town Commission Chairman David E. Carey and Chespeake City Councilman Bill Kiessling all have supported Sampson's Candidacy.
With the exception of an 11th hour barn storming stunt that fizzled, followed by a last minute winnebago tour, we haven't seen much stumping by Kostas Alexakis of Baltimore. And there have been even fewer opportunities for voters to meet, hear and size up the campaign of Ann Tamlyn of Centreville - and nothing from Steve Eastaugh of Berlin (no surprise there).
We hope Harry Sampson, if he is serious about running in the first district and wins the primary, will plan more campaign stops on the mid and lower shore so more potential constituents can meet and get to know him and his political policies.
