I posted a diary entry yesterday about casting my vote for John Edwards in the Texas primary early voting. In it I said that I'm going to do whatever I can to help John Kerry to the presidency, but I needed a little time.
Well, thanks to Ed Gillespie and the other wonderful folks at the RNC, I'm ready.
I just read
this article courtesy of the front page of Kos. You've probably seen it; it's about Bush's and Kerry's cash on hand.
When I got to this passage, my hands started to clinch in fists of rage.
"We're worried about being swamped with ads after Super Tuesday so we're going to do our best," said Wes Boyd, [MoveOn's] founder.
That prompted a sharp attack by Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican Party.
"Who does Mr. Boyd mean exactly by we?" he asked. "Coordinating ad strategy with a presidential campaign ... is a defiant, knowing and willful violation of the law."
Christ, Ed. I'll tell you what he means by "we." He means everyone opposed to your goddamn president's agenda of preemptive war, gay-bashing and pandering to the far right. He means everyone who's capable of looking at the situation in this country with the slightest hint of objectivity and saying to themselves, no, perhaps more tax cuts aren't the answer.
Come on, Ed. Don't be dense.
I guess I forgot who we're dealing with here. These assclowns will stop at nothing -- as John Kerry would say, literally nothing -- to fulfill their annhilistic vision for America.
And you know what? It's up to us to stop them.
There are things I don't like about John Kerry. There are things about John Edwards I really wish he hadn't said. But he won, fair and square for the most part, and he's our nominee. And he needs money, dammit.
So this morning I ponied up my first $100, without strings or a note exhorting him to pick Edwards for veep. There will be more where that came from, just as soon as I earn it. Back when Dean looked like the man, even as his active supporters were plateauing around 600,000, I figured that number would shoot right back up once he was the nominee and other committed Democrats like myself got behind him and joined his $100 revolution.
And that what's at the crux of this -- I'm a Democrat first and foremost, and John Kerry is the Democratic nominee. In this country and this two-party system, it's the party for progress and equality.
So I'm ready to work in that system, imperfect as it may be, and to make John Kerry my president.
See you in the White House, senator.
