This article reminds me that Kerry kept his campaign alive by mortgaging his house and taking out loans. It also reminds me of Bush's depressingly huge warchest.
Early on, a 'selling' point of Kerry was that he could draw from Teresa Heinz's fortune to be financially competitive. However, if he couldn't use that resource before Iowa, how could he for the general election?
I've heard talk that Teresa could run ads on John's behalf, but why didn't she when his campaign was obviously floundering last fall? If she responds to negative ads, would that mean issue-based or personally-related attacks? Somebody please clarify where and how the Heinz fortune counts in all this...
