Everyone knows that when a Muslim does something bad, it's all over the news, but when a Muslim does something good, it makes the back pages, if at all. Well, here's some good news that's overlooked.
Islamic Relief, along with several major American Islamic groups meeting at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) convention in Chicago today, announced the formation of a Muslim Hurricane Relief Task Force (MHRTF) to coordinate aid efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The coalition announced a pledge to raise $10 million in humanitarian relief for the victims of the hurricane.
Islamic Relief Worldwide has initially pledged $2 Million to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which will now be allocated in with the $10 million.
KindHearts, another Islamic charity based in Ohio, already wired $50,000 on September 1, and is at work. They also provided $10,000 to the American Red Cross to help in the relief.
The MHRTF is made up of many Muslim organizations in America, including:
- Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
- Islamic Circle of North American (ICNA)
- Islamic Relief
- ISNA
- Kind Hearts
- Life for Relief and Development
- Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA)
- Muslim American Society (MAS)
- Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC)
- Muslim Ummah of North American (MUNA)
