Hello All,
As some of you may know, the Bilderberg Group is an annual get-together for international leaders, bankers, financiers, media moguls and other influential people. Basically the most important people in the world, all together, no journalists, just thrashing it out. Very hush-hush....
There are two ways to look at this:
- A-ha! All along we knew a cabal was in charge.. and here it is!
- Don't be a loony - if leaders can get together and talk things through without having to worry about sound-bites and media spin, that that's gotta be a good thing.
I tend more towards (2), but secretive networking and mutual back-scratching always worries me.
Anyway, this is the place where people are 'brought-out', like some freaky coming out / debutante party, to meet the family of international leaders. Mrs Thatcher was 'introduced around' at a Bilderberg meeting, and made a big impression with a speech on Europe... and many highly influential types decided to fall in behind Clinton after he was introduced around at a similar meeting (this info from Jon Ronson's highly recommended dissection of conspiracy theories, 'Them').
Anyway... a special guest at this year's shindig is... John Edwards.

The invite is enough to show that serious people are interested in him: it may be the strongest evidence yet that he is a lock for VP. Or it may just indicate that they consider him a strong future candidate for Prez.
One thing is for sure: if JE knocks it out of the park when someone says "what do you think, John?" over the port, and all the faces in the room turn to him.... if he wows em... then we'll see how much momentum a man can have.
My opinion: back room deals are a part of life. Knock 'em dead, John-boy!
