Man, can it get any wierder?
Vernon Robinson won the GOP primary in the NC-6, but didn't get enough votes to win outright, and thus will face a run-off against Virginia Foxx in August. Robinson, if you aren't familiar with his campaign, is the campaigner behind this racist ad. (You may need to open link in a new window to get it to work) Robinson's been officially endorsed by Jesse Helms. His agenda is that of the right-wing neo-cons.
Did I remind you that Vernon Robinson is black?
"Robinson's first place finish surprised some political observers, since most late polling projected a Broyhill-Foxx run-off. Robinson was not surprised: "I knew the vote would swing our way because we were the only campaign standing up for traditional American values. Voters look around them and they hardly recognize the world they are living in - it bears no resemblance to the world they grew up in, and they want a Congressman who's willing to say that. They re tired of being called a xenophobe because they want secure borders and English as the official language. They are tired of being called a homophobe just because they don't want the gay activists shoving their homosexuality down our throats. They're tired of being called racists because they re against racial quotas, and they know I will fight to put an end to all of that in the United States Congress."
Want to know how right-wing he is? His press release announcing his primary win called his run-off Virginia Foxx a "liberal" State Senator.
"...she is by far the most liberal of Vernon s opponents. She calls herself a feminist, she supports the ERA, she's voted for special rights for homosexuals, and she's raised taxes and fees more than 100 times in the state senate. She's not going to be able to run from that record in the run-off."
So I checked out Foxx's
web site, and looked at her stated priorities.
My record of service to the people of the Fifth District is clear. When I tell you what I will do in Congress, it is not an empty promise. It is based on my strong conservative voting record. Over the past decade I have:
- Voted to deny recognition of same-sex marriages and have co-sponsored an amendment to the N.C. Constitution that would permanently ban gay marriage
- Co-sponsored all bills against partial birth abortion and have been endorsed by the Susan B. Anthony List and repeatedly by N.C. Right to Life
- Voted against all statewide tax increases including the largest tax increase in North Carolina history
- Sponsored legislation to deny social services to illegal aliens
- Co-sponsored concealed weapons laws, received a 100% approval rating from the NRA and been endorsed repeatedly by the NRA
- Voted to keep "Under God" in the Pledge and allow the Ten Commandments to be displayed in our schools
- Voted for medical malpractice tort reform
Vernon may say she's liberal, but to borrow from Dave Chappelle, Foxx has all the familiar symptoms of a right-wing conservative. If this is his campaign's idea of a liberal, just how far right can Vernon go?
