There's a paucity of concrete information about the war on drugs. As it is, a lot of the "debate" about the drugs and the war waged "on" them is emotionally laden rhetoric where hyperbole is the norm to an extent even greater than is usual in politics. Prohibition has always been publicly supported by absolutist fear-mongering where drugs are the unequivocal devil. Unlike many other phenomena, drug prohibition and the social stigma engenders a situation where objective information is scarce (due to research controls and political motives). Thus, it is necessary that any resources which can remedy this, be publicized.
In 2003, the British PM's Strategy Unit prepared a report on the drug war. The first half of that report, dealing with the drugs themselves, was released, but the second half, dealing with supply, was withheld. Eventually, that half was leaked and the govt. released it, as well.
The report makes for enlightening reading, but is a large PDF. I've presented some of the more interesting slides here.
