This is an issue that should generate a lot of letters to editors. The media's coverage of the stem cell issue is in some ways worse than their coverage of the war.
There is no moral balance to be struck. As Ron Reagan writes in a letter to NYT today, the embryos used for stem cell research would be discarded if they were not used for science. Throwing "potential life" in the trash is ok, but using it for science on the way to the trash bin is not ok?
The idea that the prophets or Jesus would somehow have a problem with stem cell research is laughable, and for the media to stand by and act as if there are two sides to this issue is hugely irresponsible. This outrage should be met with response.
