Sit down.
Are you listening?
In the war on terror, people matter. Governments matter less.
The trouble with our Muslim allies is that they are governments of Muslim countries, not the people of Muslim countries, who you'll note despise their governments, and despise us for continuing to enable their governments.
The only Muslim country in the world where we are adored by the people is Iran (they held a spontaneous vigil after 9/11, you'll recall), and you'll note that the people of Iran (like the people of virtually every Muslim country on the planet) despise their government, and you'll also note that we have virtually no relationship to the Iranian government.
There were no Iranians hijacking airplanes on 9/11, and there won't be in the future.
Could there be a lesson in there somewhere?
(Hint: Our relationship with Israel may not be as important as some think. The Iranian people hate Israel, but love us, despite our warm relationship with crazy Sharon).
Okay, no more hints...
What the hell are we doing continuing to have any relationship with the governments of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Morrocco, et al, and why are we making new best friends with Libya, Turkmenistan, Uzebekistan, et al?
The internationalism of John Kerry, so far as I can tell, would only seek to uphold the political, economic, and cultural status quo of the Muslim world, and our enablement of that status quo, which brought us 9/11 in the first place.
And we've tried interventionism. We've tried democratization. Iraq is a tragedy in slow motion.
There's only one alternative.
Strategic withdraw, from everywhere in the Muslim world.
Isolationism worked vis a vis Iran. It will work vis a vis everyone else. It is probably the only way to end the attacks...
And the American people will accept nothing short of an end to the attacks - not containment, nothing.
America has already lost the war on terror. They just don't realize it yet.
Where are you now George McGovern?
Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
