In response to a recent story regarding new ad spends in "battleground" states,
I commented that it was time for me (a Chicagoan) to venture north where my help could be used. Kerry and Obama seem to have Illinois pretty well sewn up.
Trouble was, I didn't know how to help or who to ask for help to help . . . you get the point.
Well, my request was granted. Daniel Biss is that man (see below). He's the man with the plan -- new to dKos (welcome Daniel). I repost below his e-mail to me.
I don't know as I can make this weekend, but I guarantee that I'll be up in Wisconsin helping Kerry carry the land of cheese and Brett Favre!
Hi --
My name is Daniel Biss and I'm in charge of recruiting and coordinating volunteers from Chicago to go canvassing for Kerry in Wisconsin; I saw your post on the Daily Kos. We have already made several trips to Wisconsin, and there will AT LEAST one more trip every single weekend between now and the election (including this Saturday in Beloit).
The campaign offices in Wisconsin are visibly short of volunteers -- if you have any time to make any trips, I strongly urge you to help out. They generally take a total of under eight hours on a single weekend day.
If you're willing, I'll add you to our mailing list. (Also, is there any chance you'd like to go to Beloit this Satuday? we'd leave Chicago around 9 and return by late afternoon. This trip we provide our own transportation, although I could easily find someone to give you a ride; however, starting next weekend, we'll have buses running).
Let me make another request, though. I'm something of a blog virgin, which means that I only just this moment created a DailyKos account, which means that I can't respond to this thread until tomorrow, at which point presumably no-one will be reading it anymore. Would you be willing to put up a post making people aware of our efforts? I guess the best thing would be something like the first two paragraphs of this email, followed by a sentence asking people who want more information to either write me email (daniel@math.uchicago.edu) or join the Yahoo group nikerrytravelers.
Thanks a ton!
Daniel
