I'm sickend by the latest round of Republican nonsense taking place during the last vital days of this session of congress.
From Today's Washington Post (9/16/04) washpost
"A move to repeal virtually all the District's gun restrictions has received a boost in the Senate, where gun rights supporters led by Idaho Republican Sen. Larry E. Craig are seeking to get the measure passed as an amendment to the city's 2005 budget."
...
"Both bills would end the District's long-standing bans on handguns and semiautomatic weapons, roll back registration requirements for ammunition and other firearms and decriminalize possession of unregistered firearms or carrying a handgun in one's home or workplace. Both measures also would bar the city's elected mayor and council from passing gun limits that go beyond federal law or "discourage . . . the private ownership or use of firearms."
Six Questions:
1) Are they really holding D.C. budget HOSTAGE to make Dems take a stand on gun laws? (sick)
2)Why does anyone, even if they work in the city, who is from IDAHO...have the right to say what is best for the streets of DC?
3)When I walk up on some dude stealing my car again on 14th and S, will I feel safer knowing that he may have a legal gun this time?
4)Why does the NRA always seem to pop up after a stellar month of child gun deaths? (Colorado, Michigan..Michael Moore plug.)
5)Is this really the best way our "I gave myself a new pay raise" elected officials can do with their last few, precious weeks?
6) Is this really happening?
I could be your town next. D.C. has its problems but hey, love it or hate it, you have to admit that it is high time for D.C. to stand up to the Federal Government. Arlington, Bethesda, Fairfax, and all the other neighbors should take notice....we're in this together.
