Well, in the Oklahoma Senate race, things have officially gotten nasty. GOP candidate Tom Coburn has gone
nuclear...
The National Republican Senatorial Committee began airing the ads in coordination with Coburn's campaign after days of adverse publicity for the GOP candidate, a physician and conservative former House member who is accused of sterilizing a woman against her wishes 14 years ago.
. . .
The commercial accuses Carson of having voted for taxpayer-funded abortions, against Bush's tax cuts and against passing welfare reform. "In fact, he's so liberal he's voted against the president's agenda more than Hillary Clinton or John Kerry," it says
So, the self-described cursader for "honesty", "discussing the issues", and shunning the "politics of personal destruction" has released a vicious TV commercial blasting DEM candidate
Brad Carson as the "most liberal politician in Oklahoma". To quote Coburn himself, this is "
a joke". The ad is obviously a desperate response to recent
polls showing Coburn plummeting after a rather bad week for the GOP candidate, as described
here. After pulling back in Oklahoma, the NRSC is now being forced to rescue floundering Coburn.
Among other slander unleashed in his commercial, Coburn says that Carson voted for tax-payer funded abortions and is a reckless politician who is essentially more liberal than "Hillary Clinton or John Kerry". But, probably the best part of the whole commercial, for me at least, is after all the drivel has been put forth, Tom Coburn appears on the screen, smiling, and says "I'm Tom Coburn and I approved this message". What a fake.
You know, it's funny, for a man who is supposed to be so moral, principled, truthful, and dedicated to discussing the real issues, Coburn's sudden decision to abandon all civility and the discussion of issues in order to rip into Carson, all because of all his own personal and political problems, is a sign of a weak man indeed. What a loser. Coburn is drowning. We're gunna win this...we've got to. Let's help Carson respond with a little turkee.
