[Yeah it's me again, cross-posting from
The Left Coaster. There are 42 days to go! It was 0445 and I had to do something.]
It's discouraging that even in my own brain--pickled from innumerous news feeds and blog posts, hopelessly classified as a news and political junkie--can often let slip extremely pertinent events and facts from just a few years past. As we got caught up in the campaign this phenomena will only become more pronounced, so I'm starting a new kind of post: Down the Memory Hole [ *not* ], events that should not slip from the electorate's mind as we examine the candidates for 2004.
This incredibly galling, rank lie angers me every time I see it. On the
USS Lincoln there were at least 300-500 young men and women in their first enlistment and first ship. Full of dreams and idealism, trained in their rating, their fresh energy was greeted with a mop and the crummiest jobs on the ship. For 16 hours a day, every day, as long as the ship was at sea those young men and women worked furiously at very menial jobs.
They did everything that was asked of them for a very long, very strenuous tour, and then at the very last second their ship was delayed so Bush could play. When you've been at sea for over 100 days, working 16 hours a day every day, a 1 day delay with the coast of California in sight is a truly mean thing.
Then when it all went horribly bad the Commander in Chief, resolute in his steadfast support for the troops, blamed the crew of the ship for this debacle. It just defies belief that Bush could say such a thing, but he did. It's one of the most disgusting things this war felon creep has ever done.
So when you see the Great George Bush lying at the UN today, remember what kind of man he is. A man willingly posing for propaganda and blaming the crew of the ship he sent into battle when it all went wrong. Of course the US is losing in Iraq; with leadership like that failure is totally inevitable.
