APparently, there is a pretty big email campaign to fire Dan Rather being pushed by various nut-winged
bloggers(and here), (and here).
Bob Lee, president and general manager of WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Va., and head of the CBS affiliate board, said many e-mailers offer the same message: I will not watch CBS News again until Rather is gone.
"To be honest, I'm most concerned when the e-mail is coming from a local viewer," said Gary Gardner, vice president and general manager of WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Fla.
While I do think that CBS screwed up with the handling of the memo's I don't think that Rather should be forced to resign And not to mention the fact that all of this wingnut email to local news affiliates is not a good thing.
Maybe an email campaign in support of the investigation into Bush's guard service, along with a harsh word for CBS that still manages to spare Dan Rather's job would remind these affiliates that there are many of us who see the real issue here: Bush's history of shirking his responsibilities and duties.
(If anyone feels like taking a minute to send a message to CBS news, here is the link)
But here is the real holy grail. It seems that the new website, www.rathergate.com, (which, as the title implies, is devoted exclusively to this drivel), is providing the main drive behind the emails. Apparently, they are having some success. Thankfully, the nice people there already took the time to make it possible to EMAIL ALL CBS AFFILIATES WITH ONE CLICK!
This may all seem trivial, but I feel that things like this are what allows the GOoPers to frame the debate, as people have been complaining about a lot lately. Let's try to take a minute to play their stupid game, if only to make sure that their efforts don't afford them any of their desired results.
