I've been emailing freewayblogger, who is quite simply one of the coolest guys on the internet. If you're unfamiliar with his work, check it out
here.
Anyway, he has an offer for Kossacks. Or rather, more of a contest. He wants suggestions for new signs for him to put up on the LA freeways.
Here's his email to me, laying out the rules of the contest:
My message, and I really hope this comes across on the site, is that everybody needs to do this: Get some cardboard, paint it white, paint a message on it and put it where as many of your fellow citizens can see it. The more people I can get to the site and at least start thinking about it, the better. Even in this election, which I can't
help considering at this point to be anything short of a referendum on Armageddon, (Hmmm, might be a sign in that: "It's not just an election... It's a referendum on Armageddon."), it's apparently asking a lot to get people to Pick-Up-the-Fucking-Paintbrush and paint a goddam sign. Thanks to the freeways, ten cents worth of cardboard and paint can get you ten, even a hundred thousand readers... but you've got to Pick Up the Fucking Paintbrush and Do It!
Here's my offer and I tink it's a good one. You run a contest on your diary, normal rules: your readers come up with suggestions, you pick the one you like best and I'll put it over a freeway, take a picture and send it to you, but here's the catch: One of your readers, or, barring that, you, have to send me a picture of a sign they've put up before I paint the sign and post it. Whaddaya think?
Okay, you and I both know if the winner's a good one I'll probably paint and post it anyway, but still, you get the point. what do you think?
All right Kossacks, start your engines. Let's see suggestions for the next freewayblogger sign in the comments here.
And also, freewayblogger seems to be under the impression that I will get scores of suggestions. That will only happen, however, if you recommend this diary. So, if you want this contest to work, please recommend this diary.
All right, let's see your contest entries! The winner gets his idea on a sign on the LA freeways!
