This was posted on BuzzFlash last year. I made some editorial changes to update it, but it's still relevant today as it was when I wrote it last summer. Enjoy.
After seeing the record-breaking box office receipts from Michael Moore's movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" I've become more and more convinced that the American people are hungry for the truth, no matter what form they get it in. I can't wait for Mike's new documentary this summer - he's going after the HMO industry, and it should be an equal bombshell like "Fahrenheit 9/11" was.
Let's face it, we're a nation of very intelligent people, from sea to shining sea, from the valleys to the mountains of Appalachia. There's intelligence in all forms; not just what is considered the standard norm. An individual may speak with perfect diction, but yet, not be intelligent. Likewise, an individual from the rural mountains of Appalachia may not speak with a good command of the King's English, but he or she is intelligent enough to start connecting dots and wondering why their votes in government are not resulting in better lives, jobs, economic and education benefits. Our current government would have all of us believing we're stupid; that we need someone to do our thinking for us, and call it democracy.
But, hold on! A documentary filmmaker by the name of Michael Moore decided that all Americans are for the most part, intelligent and can think for themselves. So he decided to make these movies that expose, poke fun, challenge, but most importantly, get us to think for ourselves. And thinking for ourselves is the scariest of prospects awaiting the Bush Cartel, because independent thinking turns into independent action, and if independent thinking and action come together it equals REVOLUTION!
It means that we demand and our elected officials have to respect those demands. The time for "trust us" government is over! Michael Moore's movie demonstrates just how important it is that our nation does not fall into an Orwellian abyss that we cannot crawl out of. Those of us who have seen this movie, should be galvanized into action, be it voting, registering others, or educating those who can't read, but have intelligence, on the political issues, and tell them just what's at stake in November 2006. Remember, power concedes nothing without a DEMAND, but you must have the "testicular fortitude" and the strong constituency to make such demands. DLC-types NEED NOT APPLY!
As a Christian, I know in my heart, and my spirit, that God created every human being on this earth with the intent that all of us make a contribution in this life that will benefit and bless others. I know that every life is precious and worthy. I know that he designed us for unique purposes on this earth, and the way we fulfill those purposes is through the gifting all of us with our own will. We come in all shapes, colors, ethnicities and different gender, for the purpose of learning how to interact, intertwine and work together for the common good of man. None of us are perfect, and yet, it is those imperfections that grow us, mature us and allow us to make contributions to this game that we call LIFE.
Free will means freely thinking, assessing, analyzing, for one's self. If God wanted us to march in lockstep, never thinking, He wouldn't have given us a brain, and different ways to view the same subject. Since God wants us to freely worship and serve HIM, He wants us to use our five senses, and our brains in similar fashion. He is not being reflected in what we see in our Government officials. He is saddened and probably angry that hidden world order agendas are being carried out in HIS NAME, or that He's being blamed for events that have nothing to do with Him.
As the Christian Progressive Liberal, I write on BuzzFlash, DailyKos,and other blogs, to encourage others. I even started my own weblog, devoted to getting rid of the Democratic Leadership Council. People ask me, as a Christian, how can I support a woman's right to reproductive choice, or things like that. It's because of free will that I can question and study Bible scriptures for myself to see what lines up with God's word and what doesn't. I find that people who label themselves as Christians tend to deal in absolutes, and not allow for change, diversity, flexibility or exploration, in accordance with where the individual they are encountering is, at that point in her/his life. People are constantly growing and changing, and experiencing life; this is what you bring to the table; you can't bring to the table what you don't have.
I look around our country, and see homelessness, unemployment, hunger, low expectations of life from our youth, and the implementation of class warfare that has not been seen since the 19th Century. Thanks to that obnoxious bankruptcy legislation, we're going to see more poverty and I wouldn't be surprised if the government reinstitutes "Debtor's Prisons", since they are not satisfied with breaking people financially; you gotta rob them of their dignity, honor and respect, too.
If you read the Bible, Jesus taught that those who have should be sharing with the have-nots, in order for all to receive the rich blessings of God. Is it me, or are you not seeing it either, with the cuts in social programs and the contemptuous approach our government appears to have for the poor these days?
Cheney bragged about cussing out Patrick Leahy some months ago, and I notice that the likes of the "Christians" such as Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell never called him on it. And Cheney's supposed to be a Christian -- and the Bible clearly says in Colossians 4:6 "Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible..." When did dropping the "F-bomb" at a U. S. Senator become gracious or sensible conversation? And then, to go on Fox News and brag about it? Yikes!
But, then again, this is the same bunch of "Christians" that can get away with Ann Coulter calling a journalistic icon like Helen Thomas an "old Arab", and doing their level best to distract us from the fact that they installed a gay prostitute in the White House Press Corps and called him a legitimate journalist, while he shilled his "wares" on the Internet for pay while he was "covering" the White House and within 10 feet of the President. Just how "christian" is it to allow sin and not only cover it up, but condone it (cause since they haven't denounced Jeff Gannon, their silence essentially condones him, his actions and his lifestyle). This is the same bunch that won't call out Coulter during the days she warmed Bob Guccione's bedsheets, but she's allow to determine who's a true "Christian". Please, spare me and everyone else.
Keep your hunger for the truth, because your hunger creates a counterpoint of action that cannot be ignored, and those who ignore you may do so at their own peril.
