While this title may seem at first seem to be extreme I think we need to go back to the very defination of racism
Dictionary.com:"the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races "
Well lets think about for a sec...it's all about generalization, generalization that something is superior to another. Whats worse is one acts on there racisit thoughts, and that folks is discrimination.
More below the fold
Lets review some of the comments by some of estemed leaders:
Delay: "an arrogant and out-of- control judiciary" (BIG genralization and insulting basically saying he is not arrogant)
"not just of judicial independence but of judicial supremacy,'' he advocated impeaching federal judges "who basically make law and find new rights that are not in the Constitution.'' (I believe they are the ones that are best able to judge what is in the Constitution but I guess your superior to them)
""Mrs. Schiavo's death is a moral poverty and a legal tragedy. This loss happened because our legal system did not protect the people who need protection most, and that will change. The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today." (now he's threating action....)
And now a new Player, Cornyn
"I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. Certainly nothing new, but we seem to have run through a spate of courthouse violence recently that's been on the news and I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters on some occasions where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in - engage in violence."
Now lets alter Cornyn's statment to apply to a race....I don't mean to offend so I'll pick whites.
"I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection but we have seen some recent episodes of violence in this country. Certainly nothing new, but we seem to have run through a spate of violence recently that's been on the news and I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters on some occasions where whites are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in - engage in violence against whites."
Now I didn't change much....just removed 2 courthouses and replaced judges with whites. Now tell me why should we be making such wide comments about judges...some of the best trained most vetted professionals in the country.
While all this may seem harsh, and I don't mean to belittle rasicm in any way but all of this is scary....what is being said and implied could be a form of discrimination since they are acting on these generalizations. I hope democrats and some republicans can tone down this debate...it's hurt your citizens trust in some of it's most important institutions....both the courts and Congress. It polerizes the country in an us against them mentality and people can only get hurt.
