I found this briefly mentioned way down in another thread, so I thought it would be a good idea to bring it to everyone's attention. (If someone has already covered it, my apologies. I searched and found nothing.)
According to a story appearing on the Christian Newswire, John Robert's wife worked as a former activist for a pro-life organization. The couple are also the parents of two adopted children, and according to this phobic (yet highly entertaining) Freeper thread, they are also rumored to be ~gasp~ devout Catholics.
While Robert's opinions on abortion have for the most part gone unstated, all indications are that he is a strong "pro-lifer".
Joe Scheidler, the National Director of the Pro-Life Action League, has this to say about him:
"John C. Roberts believes in the U.S. Constitution. That's exactly the kind of judge I want to appear before when I bring my case to the Supreme Court for the third time later this year," said pro-life activist Joe Scheidler on learning of George Bush's high court nominee.
<snip>
"We don't know much about Robert's views on abortion or Roe v. Wade," Scheidler added, "but we're encouraged by his record of integrity, his conservative credentials and the confidence placed in him by so many pro-life leaders." Scheidler also notes that Roberts' wife Jane once served as executive vice-president of Feminists for Life and that the couple's two children were adopted, suggesting a pro-life sensitivity. And Roberts wrote in a brief for the first Bush administration that "Roe was wrongly decided and should be overruled."
So I guess this means that Bush can have his cake and eat it too? Not only does he get a pro-business judge, he gets a stealth "pro-life" activist as well.
