The White House has been
fighting relentlessly against a new bill, widely supported by Republicans, which would bar the U.S. military from engaging in the torture of detainees or hiding prisoners from the Red Cross/Red Crescent. So much so that the White House has expressed it's concern over what it referred to as a "Republican rebellion". They also threaten to veto the legislation.
My complaint is, among other things, if our government takes the stance that torture is okay, then we have lost all credibility. Sure, Saddam Hussein was a ruthless thug, but hey, we do have the same views on torture!
