A chain letter that I have recieved from DNC regarding Mr. Hackett's Congressional run bursts with optimism. Maybe this is just a day that I am low on my anti-depressants but I tend to see things slightly differently.
Dear Governor and Chairman,
Unfortunately, I cannot share your optimism. I cannot put up with the idea that our best is a close defeat. Nobody counts losses and they do not improve our numbers in Congress. It is time to precisely profile ourselves. Most people still do not know where we stand, what we want and think us "obstructionists," cowards, proabortionists, anti-patriotic, flag burning anarchists...etc. Same people (more or less) who brought about the political downfall of the Democratic Party are still here, comfortably keeping their positions and cultivating their petty ambitions. I believe it is time for a radical change, a nation-wide consensus of progressive forces to define our platform article by article. It is time for people with new ideas and strengths. It is time for the old establishment to go. It is time for strict party discipline. It is time for an emergence of politicians with a real conviction and a fire like yours in 2004. Lets make things right and even while losing several elections (if needed) build up a firm foundation, clear ideas that will make clear distinction from a decadent, pseudo-religious capitalism practiced by the Republican Party. Let's make clear where we stand, scream ideas of equality, noninterference, human rights, protection of the sick, elderly, and disabled. Let's tell people who year after year vote against their interests that nobody in America is pro-abortion, nobody, and that the culture of life is closer to us who respect personal choices and reject the interference of somebody's personal beliefs into others' lives. We are not the self-righteous who in their infinite stupidity and arrogance think that they know what God wants to tell us. Until we are completely able to profile ourselves, I doubt any significant change will occur in the balance of forces in Congress.
Sincerely,
