"I'd like to change the debate in this way. We often tend to view this as, every time we give information up, that's an invasion of privacy. The average American gives information up to get a CVS [drugstore discount] card that is far more in-depth than TSA's going to be looking at. But I actually make the case that giving up a little bit more information protects privacy. Ask anybody that you deal with: Would you rather give up your address and date of birth to a secure database and not be pulled aside and questioned, or would you rather not give it up and increase the likelihood that you will be called out of line and someone's going to do a secondary search of your bag and they're going to ask you a lot of personal questions in the full view of everybody else? I think privacy is promoted by getting a little more information in the database and not being pulled out of line."
Soooo, let me get this right - I give the government more information about me, and my privacy increases....as John Stewart said recently (paraphrased):
Its a new record - a one word to one lie ratio!!!
