I am starting to wonder if we have rights anymore. You can now be searched on the spot, your home or place of business can be searched without your ever know it or more importantly why, you can be placed on a no-fly list without knowing it or why you where placed on the list.
As has been covered by many diaries, with the nomination of Roberts for the Supreme Court, it seems our Right to Privacy is now in question.
More on flip....
Immigrants in the US can be held (put in jail) indefinitely with almost no rights.
Enemy Combatants have no rights at all it seems. Yes, they are our enemy, but you still must "do unto other, as you wish them to do unto you" otherwise you "reap what you sew." By abandoning the Geneva Convention, we not only deny people their rights, we as a nation consent to the lose of our rights.
People in other lands now have no rights in the eye's of the US government. They can be snatched anytime and anyplace.
And now, non-US-citizens who are traveling through the US have only, 'the right not to be subjected to "gross physical abuse."' That is unless they are arrested and then rendered, then they have no rights at all. ( http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/08/11/arar-lawsuit050811.html )
So what is the deal? Are our Rights eroding quickly? Quicker than we ever imagined? It is starting to look that way.
Not only that, as stated above, we are now negating the rights of people from other countries. We are saying, "if you visit the US, we will not honor you as a guest, but as a countryless wonderer we can do anything to." We are telling the world, we can come to your country, to your home and snatch you in the night. We are becomeing the boogeyman.
Some people may think, "but this they are not doing this to Americans." But, our rights are disappearing too. Think back twenty years ago, I was taught in school your person could not be searched, that included what you carried. Not only that, your car could not be searched without a warrant -- today, "probable cause" seems to erases the need for a warrant in nearly any case. Think about all the rights we have lost in just the last five years -- it is astounding. And with each right we give up, that is another point for the terrorist, another point for those who hate freedom, democracy and America.
Damn it, I want my Rights! I want my Freedom! I want to live like an American, not like a subject.
