That's right, I said it. One day, maybe not until a few days, weeks, months, or years later but regardless, we will thank the Right Wing. Should we and our nation survive this perilous future that lies ahead of us, we will thank the Right Wing for providing us great comedy and music that erupted from their actions and policies. But most importantly, we will thank them for one thing:
For adding credence to the fact that giving a group of people enough air time and visibility will reveal, in one way or another, their true intentions & desires.
Information may no longer be profitable come the turn of the decade, but its ability to archive will forever be a benefit to us and the reality-based community.
Every word Ann Coulter spewed into print, every call for assassination by Pat Robertson, every picture taken of church billboards that hurled self-righteous, every photo of a "GOD HATES FAGS" Fred Phelps rally, every video that documents the return of Nazis amongst border-patrol minutemen. All of this, will in some form, somehow, always be stored and available to the public eye at a moment's notice.
The Pandoras Box nature of the Internet leaves everything we say and do up to ridicule from others, whether we like it or not. I have a feeling, that years down the road, many conservatives are not going to feel too comfortable with themselves when these various moments are redocumented for the public eye time and time again.
Conservatives are not going to be able to fully cast aside this part of their history. Just as the Abu Gharib photos and videos will shame us and this nation for generations to come, so will all these great moments in wingnuttery will be documented, archived, and available for us to shame them and their brethren for generations to come.
Whenever one corrupt GOP politician says one thing, today's technology, with a click of the mouse, or a flip of the switch, can produce that proof or quotation for all to see that will show that this person is not to be trusted with your tax dollars. Remember Jon Stewart showing the world that Dick Cheney lied when he said he never said that "(Atta's meeting in prague) had been pretty well confirmed"? It's as easy as that, and for years now, the right wing has offered us a complete encyclopedia of quotations, comments, and visuals of who they are, what they want the world to be, and how far they would go to get it that way.
There will always be a segment of the population that will forever remain ignorant of the dangers these folks provoke with their lies and filth they support. But that doesn't mean the vast majority will remain so. The Right Wing wanted their pedestal, their moment of glory, and they got it. If anything, they have given us all the ammunition we will ever need to use against them.
Their moment of temporary ecstasy they are experiencing today, or have experienced for the last few years, will make it much harder down the road for them and their direct or indirect associates to ever be taken seriously or given a piece of the action again. The 2004 election was not our fool me twice moment - this is and will be, and one day we will thank them for that.
