Today I was visited by two of God's servants going door to door pronouncing His love to anyone who answered the door.
Today's message: The End Times.
As they flip-flopped from scripture to scripture that prophesied the "Beginning of The End", I politely asked them to put down their bibles and in their own words explain why they have chosen to believe a loving God would behave in such a bizarre way.
They of course said they "had faith" in what they believed was the "Word of God".
I pointed out that faith is by its own definition a personal and strongly held belief of one's own choosing and that they have chosen to believe things that not only go against all reason, but against all good fundamental Christian moral teachings.
They have chosen to believe a loving God would torture and kill his only son. An event they celebrate as the most profound demonstration of His ultimate love of mankind - who he will, at some later date, destroy because of an admitted design flaw that basically makes us all evil beings if left to our own devices.
They have chosen to believe that a loving God with infinite wisdom and unlimited powers cannot come up with a plan better than "get mad - take his marbles - and go home".
They explained that in His infinite wisdom, God was only going to get rid of the "wicked" ones. The good will end up with God in heaven on earth.
When I asked them about the innocent victims of hurricane Katrina (on their list "recent signs" of God's End Times "warm-up" Wrath) they said "those people were wicked".
I made them repeat this, twice. Then when I was sure I had heard them correctly, I handed them back their watchtower magazine and suggested they take their "Abysmal selves" and "Get Thee Gone"
...in my best Pirate voice, of course.
