In the AM I usually look at a number of blog / web sites to see what has / has not exploded while I was sleeping. One of the sites I check is Juan Cole's daily posting of his view of Iraq, based on many contacts he has. This morning Juan's column included some information about the election in Iraq - in other words, what will it mean? The names of candidates are unknown in Iraq, the election boards in two (or more??) cities have quit because of threats of violence. None of this is news to me - or, probalby any reader of dKos. But, what I heard from David Brooks on Imus was amusing . . .
(more below the fold)
David Brooks was repeating pure Bush-it talking points. If there's an 80% turnout in the election (huh!!), this election would be a sign to other Arab countries that democracy can work. The people in Iraq truly want democracy. (I didn't think they wanted democracy as much as clean drinking water and electricity). When asked if the US should have invaded Iraq, he came up with the usual, "Yes, we had to do something."
I really wish that Saddam Hussein would be running in the Iraq election - he'd probably win!
