Am I the only one enormously bothered by the not-so-hidden subtext oozing from every pore of 24 this year?
So far on 24:
- torture's OK,
- liberals are cringing wimps (they should be tortured as well),
- THEY are among us (ready to kill and rape our women),
- Rumsfeld, er, Devane is NOT a war criminal, how dare you, he's a cuddly yet spunky older version of Sgt. Fury.
- Women shouldn't be entrusted with positions of authority (too emotional).
- Fat geeks can't be trusted either.
Yep, that's Fox's America all right.
I know the program has to work within certain dramatic scenarios, but hell, look at the British MI5 (SPOOKS) on A&E and see how much better ideologically that is, while still dealing with essentially the same threats.
