This week's latest Campaigns and Elections survey offered a choice between two possible 2008 presidential nominees: John McCain (R-AZ) versus Joseph Biden (D-DE).
The poll offered respondents a choice between this set of presidential nominees. (Stay tuned: other pairings will be offered in future surveys.) This time it was McCain v Biden. There was also a text box for additional comments by respondents.
Results on the backside.
Three out of five (60%) chose Biden, three in ten (28%) picked McCain, and the remainder said they'd prefer "Other."
Writes Brittney Pescatore of Campaigns and Elections.com, "In a battle for the White House between two well-known Senators and former Presidential candidates, Web site visitors support the Democratic ticket."

One of this week's respondents remarked, "McCain had my respect. Had." Another wrote, "after six years of the worst Republican administration ever, it's time to go Democrat."
Last year this dynamic duo was paired in a C&E poll, and Biden took half (51%) of the votes. This time he's up almost ten points.

"The poll results suggest that Biden's early campaigning is working for him," reports Pescatore. "With more than two years to go before the presidential election, the challenge will be for him to hold on to the kind of support that put him in the lead for this week's poll."
One McCain supporter commented, "I like Bush's foreign policy, though I thought he made some serious bungles. I think McCain would be a strong Reaganite that is tough but knows about U.S. limits, and is smarter in his grand strategy than Bush is."
