I'm always jealous when I hear about progressive Democrats whose parents share their views. Personally, my parents are both Bush supporters. They're not rabid Rush/O'Reilly devotees, but they quietly think that all Arabs are evil (although they would never say that explicitly), and we have to do what we have to do to win the "War on Terror" (invading Iraq, NSA wiretapping, etc.).
They don't believe in dissent--discussing Abu Ghraib, or now Haditha, for example, is undermining support for our troops and therefore anti-American. They consider themselves "fiscal republicans"--the religious extremism doesn't appeal to them (we're Jewish)--but "defending traditional marriage" is something that resonates strongly with them. Basically, they hold onto the belief that they're independent-minded fiscal Republicans, even though they buy-in completely to Bush's motivation via fear (Arabs/Terrorists/Gays) and they somehow give a free pass to Bush's fiscal excesses.
I'm curious about my fellow DailyKos users--were we raised by Dittoheads? Hippies? Independents? Something inbetween?
