Voter suppression, United States, 2004:
Senator John F. Kerry used Boston's annual Martin Luther King Jr. memorial breakfast yesterday to decry what he called the suppression of thousands of would-be voters...
"Thousands of people were suppressed in their efforts to vote. Voting machines were distributed in uneven ways," (he said).
Voter suppression, Iraq, 2005:
Insurgents have made a gruesome billboard threat to behead Iraqis who take part in next weekend's elections, warning they will use ink thumb prints to be issued at polling stations to target voters.
"The poster seen in a town in central Iraq shows a headless body with its thumb covered in ink. The message is 'you vote, you die'," said a senior military officer yesterday.
The motives haven't changed, the contempt for free elections hasn't changed...
but my how much more subtle Karl Rove has learned to be!
God bless America.
