I'd planned to write a diary concerning how disgusted I came to be with Bill Clinton for what I feel was a wasted Presidency, eight years in which someone as smart as he is could have truly changed the world, had he cared. He didn't.
But I'm trying to look ahead, so I put it off.
Well, today, the NYC tabloids are abuzz with talk of Hillary organizing to run in '08, and Bill is at the White House for a pubic service photo-op with the Fuehrer and his dad. This comes on the heels of the chummy get-together at the opening of Clinton's Library, and amidst a torrent of bile emanating from Al From and his Confederates at the DLC regarding the DNC chairmanship.
So, what if Bill Clinton is not done torturing me? What if he has yet another negotiation of principle, for interest, planned?
What if Clinton breaks ranks and aligns himself with Bush, serving as a Middle East envoy, U.N. Ambassador, or even in the Cabinet?
What if Clinton plans on circumventing the party's internal mechanisms to promote Hillary as a de facto third-party (DLC) candidate?
Bush and Clinton would find this a marriage of convenience, as both the Republicans and Democrats would raise more money due to the explosive chemistry of Hillary's candidacy. Red State trash would be prostrate with rage, while corporate donors would once again understand where Clinton is coming from and would underwrite Hillary's candidacy.
In a curious irony, both sides would be better off than under the alternative, namely Hillary losing the nomination in '08.
