Not really an informative diary - just a few headlines/opinions from the last year that
made news one way or another
This was considered the least imaginable headline - it appeared in Financial Times on November 23, 2004:
"China tells U.S. to put its house in order."
Future of the industry as Todd G. Buchholz, author of "Bringing the Jobs Home", sees it (October 2004):
"They say in the future a typical factory will host three workers: a man, a computer and a dog. The computer will do all the work. The man will feed the dog. And the dog's job? To bite the man -- if he touches the computer."
(Read on...the rest is below the fold)
Controversial opinion of Li Ruogu, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (November 2004):
"China's custom is that we never blame others for our own problem. The United States has the reverse attitude, whenever they have a problem, they blame others."
Not so controversial opinion of Gary Stibel, managing partner at New England Consulting (July 2004):
"If we let Wal-Mart negotiate with OPEC, we would be paying $1 a gallon for gasoline."
And some more...
Diane C. Swonk, chief economist at Bank One, on the price of tax cuts (October 2004)
"You've got to believe there's a Santa Claus to believe there's no cost for the gifts under the tree."
This American (Bob Sherwood, U.S. motorist, March 2004) and many others I am sure have no illusions about Santa Claus whatsoever:
"I'm working two hours a day just to pay for the gas to get me to and from home."
And finally, another memorable 2004 headline from London (Financial Times, August 2004):
"America is now on the comfortable path to ruin."
Headlines you haven't seen yet, but only because they are from the year 2050 (yes, I do have a Crystal ball):
- Florida to be Re-admitted to the Union
- Authentic Year 2000 Chad Sells For $6.9 Million at Sotheby's
- Baby Conceived Naturally
- Court Clears AOLTimeWarnerGE-DisneyCiscoFord-NabiscoExxon-Mobil of Monopoly Charges
Feel free to add to that list and also what do you think will be a headline of the year 2005?
