One of the dangers of working on computers all the time is that it's very easy for me to get side-tracked by sites like this.
I'm taking a break to write this, because as per usual - people annoy the shit out of me, and I feel motivated to rant. Unfortunately no one pays me for this, and the occasional 4 rating, while nice, doesn't really mean shit to me.
I'm not here for approval, I'm here from a combination of boredom, discontent, and ego mania - I haven't figured out the percentages of each yet, I suppose it varies.
The big "challenge" is tomorrow.
I know it's a lot to expect politicians to have principles, let alone act on them. But, ultimately, isn't that what defines people in all walks of life?
Most people, even people I don't agree with, and often people I loathe - have respect for those who stand for something.
Rosa Parks had balls, Martin Luther King had balls, Che Guevara had balls, Susan B. Anthony had balls, FDR had balls.
Balls, that is, willingness to take a forceful position and not back down, even, especially, specifically, because there is a possibility of loss or injury, are what makes a leader a leader. Those who lead through threats, fear, or military might are not really leaders - they're tyrants. George Bush is a tyrant.
One tyrant is as good as another.
The only thing worse than a tyrant is a coward.
A coward with "and honorable position" is worthless - that's what we have now in the democratic party.
Tomorrow comes a character defining moment. Those Senators who stand and challenge may pay for it, the party may pay for it - but if they do not we will all pay for it.
It's time for some balls.
If life has taught me one great lesson it's this - the cliche is true - "Your character is your destiny.
Let's hope they don't let us down.
