You know, of all the asinine right wing talking points that I hear our esteemed legislators spew on a daily basis, the one that really makes me the most nauseous, is the lack of a Democratic plan for Iraq. What makes my stomach take one more tumble is the explanation that the Democrats plan is - all together now - cut and run. So I thought that in an effort to save money on my Pepto budget, I'd discuss my reason for hating this meme.
The debate heard from our elected representatives is familiar to all at this point. Democrats would like to hear the plans of the administration in regard to this war that is bleeding our youth and taxing our treasury, as well as turning our once proud and admired nation into the pariah of the world. The republicans respond with a perfectly polished for 10 second sound bite response of, we stay the course until the war on terror is won, as they stand up, we can stand down. A very sound plan indeed, if your goal is to sound as much in control of a situation as you can in a 10 second news clip. And as we all are achingly aware of, when requested to answer in a manner that encompasses more than 15 words and takes longer than 30 seconds to explain, all questions are referred to the President, who in return assures us that our generals on the ground in Iraq have the ultimate say in the matter.
Now this is where my stomach starts to roll a bit. As we've been told consistently in the past years, the President has the Constitutional power to conduct the war in a manner he sees as appropriate to protect the American people. Now my stomach is at full tilt. What is the Democrats plan for Iraq? It belongs to one person, and one person alone, the Democrat who is inaugurated into the Oval Office 2 years from now, the President of the United States. To ask any one other than that person is to violate the only justification of the Bush administrations power grab of our Constitutional government.
There is one plan, and one plan alone, the Presidents plan. I see absolutely nothing to even consider that situation is going to change any time with in this administration. To which I say, Mr. Bush, what is your fucking plan? As a voting citizen of the United States Mr. Bush, one of many citizens who constitute the sovereignty of this nation, I demand from you, our servant, what is your fucking plan? It is completely irrelevant what the Democrats plan is at this moment, and it will not matter until your term in the Presidency has finished. As immortalized by your fellow Republican, Harry Truman, the buck stops with you Mr. Bush. Don't let it be the first buck you've ever given to anyone in good faith in your life.
