Had to read the first 150 pages of "Brokenburn: Journal of Kate Stone" and I must say, I'm about ready to show her the back of my hand (not that I'm advocating violence against women or anything, 'specially dead ones)
I'm about at Oct 3rd, 1862: The confederate army's been sent howling back across the Potomac after being whooped in Maryland (much to Kate's surprise), news of the Emancipation Proclamation had reached Vicksburg (she's treatin' like some godawful high crime) and people is dropping like flies (malaria epidemic in slave quarters last summer, now here)
Just to say it, I'd never again thought, after 2004, that I'd get teary-eyed at the thought of your "boys in blue". But I did.
Well, This is my only university book that I'm giving serious thought of resale to. Maybe find a good Union Diary.
At least I got through that "Our Cause is Just" garbage without retchin'.
