If we are to build a better future, for ourselves, for society, for the world and Mother Earth, then the notions of blame, vengeance (among other fear based social responses) must be left behind.
If we are to develop into a healthy society, our culture of strict disciplinarian fathership must give way to a better vision of understanding, trust, honesty and respect, for all our various strengths and weaknesses.
We must accept that the current system of fear based rule, where wrong deed leads to punishment (unless you're "powerful" enough to avoid consequence) just is not working.
It is time to create something better. I think that we need to start envisioning and putting into practice the principles upon which a peaceful and healthy (sustainable) society will be based.
I am thinking of things ranging from the simple and practical, like religious recycling, or if it's yellow let it mellow - if it's brown flush it down, to the complex and nuanced, like practicing forgiveness and understanding - even for criminals. We are all human and we all have the same basic needs, i.e. food, shelter, companionship, security, basic respect, etc.
