So, I'm not longer working at a corrupt Red doughnut purveyor, and I'm no longer involved in our VPs "voluntary" requests for help on various Republican campaigns. While I haven't completely cut ties with my connections and friends, I find myself rather alone. I guess my new kinder, more liberal glow just offends them.
However, now that I'm free, I've been forced to face the fact I've traded programming accounting and management software at one one mega-company peddling sugary DSD crap for another (doughnuts to soda). Not exactly moving toward liberalism at warp-speed.
Anyone want to help me brainstorm for a new, more liberal career? Maybe one that does justice to the verb named after me?
We'll, I've taken these last few days to take some time to catch up with my family and spend some time with the baby. I've also had time, the first in 3 months, to really sit down and read Daily Kos and other liberal blogs and sites I perused daily.
I miss the liberal political community, and I don't want to waste my life and talent making money for a company whose products are nothing more than luxury calories. So, now that I'm in the midst of changing my red stripes to blue, what can I do with my life so that it's not wasted slaving to make some mega-corporation profit? My new job just doesn't settle well with my new soul.
I would love to go to work everyday and know that what I do makes lives better. In fact, I'd probably be very happy giving all my time to Habitat for Humanity, or volunteering to teach computer classes at our Senior Center. However, I do need to make money. My wife lost her job at Tycho a couple of years ago, and has been at home raising our daughter since.
I have no real expectations about where I would work. Working for a politician would be interesting, civil service would be fine, or teaching I would love (don't know how qualified I am). The only stipulations are that I can't cut my income to less than 29-30k a year, and I really want to spend my life doing something worthwhile (you know, liberal). I'd prefer not to move from the Triad, NC area (Winston-Salem-Greensboro).
For qualifications, I'm 26 years old, have a degree in Business Administration, know multiple programming languages, used to be fluent in Japanese (8 years ago after 2 years of high school and 44 credit hours in college, but I'd need refreshers). I built the reporting and collections software for Krispy Kreme doughnuts where I was a manager in Accounts Receivables, and I have 12 years interning at my parent's company (technically since age 10 through college) so I've picked up quite a bit about running a million-dollar gross company).
So, help me brainstorm. What can I do to advance liberalism and make the world? I'm tired of advancing corporatism and making the world more profit-driven.
