Short diary here, and I apologize for that, but I saw some interesting info from the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll via
Hotline Blog. In addition to the usual questions, the poll asked "are there any candidates...for whom you would definitely not vote for in the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination?"
The results? Somewhat surprising, to me at least, and not likely to make the Kos community happy.
More on the flip...
The number one person on the Democratic list? With 17% of the vote...ladies and gentlemen...Al Gore!
Al Gore topped the list among Dems with 17%, followed closely by John Kerry (14%) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (13%).
I'm sure the poll in a lot of ways reflects that Gore tried it once, and "failed" (not really, thank you Supreme Court), and that voters don't want to repeat a losing strategy. But it still struck me as surprising, given the support and admiration that Gore has recieved from the blogosphere lately. Interesting to see if they keep asking this question, and if things change as we get further along. I think he'd make a fine President if he chooses to run (which seems highly unlikely), and can't believe he's outpacing Kerry and Hillary on this one.
And yes, I know I've been as critical as anyone of Presidential discussion this far out. The lesson? I'm a giant hypocrite.
Oh, by the way, on the Republican side?
Among GOPers, Newt Gingrich came in with 21%, followed by John McCain with 19% and Rudy Giuliani with 8% (release)
Good old Newt. Hopefully this will make him go away.
Update [2005-11-11 15:27:36 by AnnArborBlue]:: Apparently it wasn't as clear as I'd hoped in the original diary: this poll was asking voters which candidate they would support in a Primary, not a general, and they asked Dems and independents who were voting in the Dem primary about Democrats, and Republicans and independents who were voting in the Republican primary about Republicans.
